Paraguayan side or Brazilian side

Worth saying up front, because it is the most common question: Itaipu can be visited from either side, and it is the same dam. If you are staying in Foz do Iguaçu, the Brazilian circuit is the direct option and you do not need us for it.

This departure makes sense in a different situation: when you are based in Ciudad del Este. The Paraguayan-side visit then avoids crossing the border twice in one day, starts and ends at your hotel, and in two hours frees the rest of the day for the retail district. Plenty of people who come to shop end up seeing the dam exactly this way.

What is included and what is not

What LTO provides is the transfer and the accompaniment: the visit to the complex is run by Itaipu Binacional and has its own admission rules.

Payable in guaraníes, dollars or reais, cash or card. It is the cheapest LTO tour after the city tour, and the shortest, which makes it the easiest to combine with something else the same day.

What you see

The Itaipu Binacional hydroelectric dam is one of the largest in the world, built across the Paraná river on the border between Paraguay and Brazil. What lands in person is the scale: the wall, the spillway and the reservoir are all visible at once from the viewpoints, and from there it is obvious why the project reshaped the geography of the whole Alto Paraná.

It is a short viewpoint visit, not a long walk. Two hours covers the panoramic circuit and the return, so it works well for a half morning or half afternoon and leaves the rest of the day free for the commercial centre of Ciudad del Este or for the city tour.

Why passenger details are required

Confirming the booking requires full details of every passenger. That is a requirement of the complex itself, not an LTO formality, and it is why this tour cannot be booked at the last minute. Along with Tierra Guaraní, which also enters Itaipu, it is the only LTO departure where that requirement is explicit.

In practice it means sending the full name and document number of each passenger, along with the date, in your first WhatsApp message. That way the booking is confirmed in the same exchange.

For Gs 25.000 more, Tierra Guaraní adds the museum, the nature park and a panoramic drive through Hernandarias. The short visit makes sense if your day is already full or if the dam is the only part you care about.

How to book

On WhatsApp at +595 983 945945, with 24 hours' notice. The booking is only confirmed once you send full details for every passenger, along with the date, the number of people and the hotel where you are staying in Ciudad del Este.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to cross into Brazil for this tour?

No. This departure enters from the Paraguayan side and crosses no border, so no passport formalities are involved — the identity document whose details you sent when booking is enough. If you are staying in Foz and want the Brazilian circuit, that is a different tour, booked on that side.

Which days can I visit?

Tuesday to Sunday. There is no departure on Mondays.

What does double-occupancy basis mean?

The fare corresponds to a service provided on a double-occupancy basis. If you are travelling alone, or there are more than two of you, message us on WhatsApp and we will give you the rate for your group.

Can I visit Itaipu and do another tour the same day?

Yes. At 2 hours it is LTO's shortest departure and fits comfortably into the same day as the Ciudad del Este city tour, which leaves at 09:00 and 13:00.

Does the visit run if it rains?

Itaipu has no weather restriction like the one that applies to Tatí Yupí Park, which is part of Tierra Guaraní and not of this departure. If the forecast complicates your date, message us before the tour.
