The Asunción Capital Tour is the 2-day, 1-night package that goes from Ciudad del Este down to the capital. It costs from Gs 1.400.000, leaves from Shopping del Este and is the only LTO tour that includes entrance tickets, accommodation, refreshments and medical assistance in the same fare.

How much the Asunción Capital Tour costs

LTO's Asunción Capital Tour costs from Gs 1.400.000 and lasts 2 days and 1 night. The word from matters: it is the base fare, and the final price depends on the date and the make-up of the group, so it is confirmed when you book.

It leaves from Shopping del Este

Departure is arranged when you book, and the meeting point is Shopping del Este in Ciudad del Este, the same place the Ciudad del Este City Tour leaves from. Unlike the short tours, this package does not list pick-up from each hotel: you need to get to the meeting point.

What you visit

The programme combines Asunción's old town with two outings, to the metropolitan area and to the department of Cordillera. These are the visits on the route:

The historic centre of Asunción

The heart of the route: the National Pantheon of Heroes, the mausoleum of the country's founding heroes; the Casa de la Independencia, where the independence of 1811 was plotted; the El Cabildo Cultural Centre, the former legislative building facing the bay; and the Palacio de López, seat of the executive branch, which the programme includes as a panoramic view.

The museums

The programme adds the CONMEBOL Museum in Luque, devoted to the history of South American football, the CAPASA Museum and the Railway Station, which preserves the country's first railway station. Entrance to museums and attractions is included in the fare.

The evening walk through the PALMEAR Fair

The evening of the first day includes an evening walk through the PALMEAR Fair in Asunción. It is the part of the programme that breaks away from the museum circuit and shows the city at night.

Areguá and the Basilica of Caacupé

Outside the capital, the route takes in Areguá, with its crafts pedestrian street and La Candelaria church, and the Basilica of Caacupé, the most important Marian shrine in Paraguay. These two stops explain why the package needs two days and does not fit into one.

The hotel, refreshments and assistance

The package includes 1 night in a 4★ hotel with breakfast, plus refreshments and appetisers along the route and medical assistance and coordination throughout. It is the only LTO service that lists medical assistance as included, and that makes sense: it is the one that goes furthest from the company's base of operations.

Why the package is better value than arranging it yourself

Asunción is a long way from Ciudad del Este, and LTO's own rate card shows it: the private transfer between Ciudad del Este and Silvio Pettirossi Airport in Asunción costs Gs 2.000.000 for 1 to 4 passengers, the highest transfer fare of all our tours, well above the Gs 300.000 for Guaraní Airport, which is in Alto Paraná.

By comparison, the Capital Tour costs from Gs 1.400.000 and already includes the return transport, the hotel night with breakfast, the tickets and the guide. It is the difference between paying for the journey and paying for the whole trip.

Capital Tour or Asunción City Tour

LTO sells several ways to see Asunción, and these two do not compete: one leaves from Ciudad del Este and the other from Asunción. The Capital Tour costs from Gs 1.400.000 and covers the whole trip; the Asunción City Tour costs Gs 150.000 but leaves from Shopping del Sol, in Asunción, so it suits you if you are already in the capital.

What to bring

• Hand luggage for one night: the package includes a single overnight stay.
• Comfortable shoes: the historic centre is explored on foot.
• Sunscreen, a cap and water. Asunción is hotter than Alto Paraná for much of the year.
• An ID card. No border is crossed: the route is inside Paraguay.
• Cash or a card for meals that are not included and for the crafts fair in Areguá.
